We are in Zhengzhou!

Today our job was to fly with our travel group to Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province. Out the airplane window we got to see blue skies and the sun! (We haven’t seen it since we descended down through the clouds into Beijing) It is gray and hazy most all the time here. When we landed and got off of the plane, it was muggier than Alabama and muggier than Beijing! We smelled a faint hint of flowers in the air. Even though it is a city, it is not quite the hustle and bustle that Beijing was. Dave commented as we were walking into the airport in Zhengzhou, that the next time we are at that airport, we will have our son in tow….

We are staying at a five star hotel here where anything on the premises is really expensive and it is miserable to walk too far outside…not sure what we will find to eat that is nearby and reasonable in price.

After we got checked in and had lunch we had to go to the bank to exchange our dollars for RMB for some fees for tomorrow…one of our bills exchanges for 6.4 RMB, so my money belt got quite thick….the thicker it gets, I have been making sure my shirt is over it, so as the trip progresses, I am looking more pregnant! Please see my goofy picture! I also stuffed our very very important adoption documents under my shirt…just for the picture! But I have been guarding them with my life! We will be relieved to get rid of both the excess money as well as get all of the important documents dispersed!

Tonight we walked a long distance to go to WalMart…what a trip! We saw lots of literally bare-bottomed babies and toddlers! They have the split crotch pants on, or nothing at all and we even saw a little guy squatting in the aisle going poop and potty on the floor! We have seen that quite a bit….What we don’t understand yet is how the parent that is carrying the child keeps from getting soiled? We hope to find this out!

We have smelled more smells than ever before in our lives…I can’t even describe them, but 99% of them are unpleasant…you know how humidity makes good things smell better and yucky things smell even worse? Well, I guess when the climate is this muggy, it exaggerates how everything smells….

The big news…tomorrow is Gotcha Day! We will go to a place called the registration building and receive our children! The crib is in our hotel room and it is Eli Ming’s last night in institutional care! And he doesn’t even have a clue! His life will change forever as will ours, once again! The only word I can use to try to describe what this feels like , is surreal….we are all nervous, excited, and stunned that this day will be upon us in 12 hours…..I am really enjoying our travel group! They are an amazing mix!

Need sleep….
