That’s code for mission accomplished! We have Eli and Gail’s prayers have been answered – he is extremely peaceful and calm – at least for now. He loves being held and seems to be content with either myself or Gail. What an incredibly beautiful day – watching each child arrive and be delivered to their adoptive parents. To see lives immediately changed forever in a moment’s time is a rare and powerful thing to witness. Yes, I was overcome with emotion as one by one each child met their adoptive family for the first time. Joy filled for the new family and heart wrenching for those caretakers that had to part company with the little ones they nurtured. Each child reacted differently some with a glazed look in their eyes, some with tears, and some with screaming. Eli was struck with awe and wonder observing with concern his crying com-padres. He sat down and watched everything going on around him while holding on to the toy cell phone I gave him to play with. Then he latched on to a matchbox car I pulled out, then a tiny toy ambulance that makes a siren sound when you push on the back wheels. He clutched everything I gave him. Then we brought out the cheerios – he latched onto one and then another and then another content to merely hold onto to everything. Finally he popped a cheerio in his mouth, then another and then another . . . . and the boy hasn’t stopped eating all day except for when he fell asleep in my arms on the bus ride back to the hotel. We spent the rest of the day playing on the floor and eating. Soft energy bar for kids, fried rice, rice conchee (Chinese porridge), formula from a bottle and even his first McDonald’s french fry no problem. He ate everything he was given and played quietly with his new toys for three hours straight! Then we walked around the hotel. He can walk and run but needs to build up some strength in his legs. He even tackled what we think to be his first experience walking up stairs with help. He just finished laughing and giggling while playing with Gail and has now fallen asleep in her arms. All is well. Bonding has begun. Relief and answered prayer. An amazing day full of life and love…..
